Hints for non Western European operating systems ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Hints for the installation of ADONIS®:Community Edition ---------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************************************************** ** NOTE: ** ** For more detailed description of the installation process ** ** with msi please refer to the file readme_msi.txt from the ** ** subfolder "setup" before the installation. ** ***************************************************************** - MSDE Runtime / MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition must be installed separately and before the installation of ADONIS®:Community Edition by starting setup.exe in "MSDE" folder (MSDE Runtime) or by starting sqlexpress.exe in "SQLExpress" folder (MSSQL Server 2005 Express Edition). Please refer to chapter 4. for more information if your operating system is Windows Vista. - For proper installation of ADONIS with MSSQL Server 2005 Express Edition it is necessary to follow the guidelines for MSSQL Server 2005 Express Edition installation. These guidelines are available in the file "BOC-ManagementOffice_sqlserver_2005_express_install_en.pdf" stored in "dbinfo" folder of the installation package. - MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is required for the installation of MSDE 2000. - To install ADONIS®:Community Edition, start the setup.exe from "setup" folder. You will find more information about the installation of ADONIS®:Community Edition in the file readme_msi.txt. - Administration rights are required to install ADONIS®:Community Edition. Additionally administration rights may be necessary for installing MSDE Runtime / MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Hints, which might make working with ADONIS®:Community Edition easier ---------------------------------------------------------------- - The ADONIS®:Community Edition package also includes ADL files with example models. You can import following files from the "Examples" folder in the ADONIS®:Community Edition installation directory into your ADONIS®:Community Edition database: a) Example-Bank.adl b) Example-BPMN.adl - The manuals are available both as online manuals in the ADONIS®:Community Edition Start menu and as PDF files in the "books" folder in the installation directory. - For the generation of the documentation (HTML or DOC/RTF) with many models, make sure that there is enough memory available. Otherwise it is possible that documentation generation may crash. The amount of memory depends on the number and contents of the models. It is suggested that for about 300 models, there should be at least 512 MB of memory (physical and virtual together). - In order to display generated HTML documentation, MS Internet Explorer (version 5.0 or higher) or Mozilla Firefox (version 1.07 or higher) is required. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Other hints ---------------------------------------------------------------- - ADONIS®:Community Edition can be used with Windows NT (SP6 or higher), Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista (see chapter 4. Windows Vista compatibility) operating system. The support of Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME is no longer guaranteed. - To remove the database following steps must be done: a) Open a console window on the database server and connect to SQL Server. (If you are working with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, then on the computer where it is installed) Example: type "sqlcmd .\database_instance_name" in a command prompt b) Execute the command "drop database ". c) Execute the command "go". d) Manually remove the ODBC data source from the ODBC data source manager. (The ODBC data source manager can be started with command "odbcad32.exe") WARNING: These steps will delete any database - even databases which are not related to ADONIS®:Community Edition! Deleted databases cannot be restored! ---------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Windows Vista compatibility ---------------------------------------------------------------- - The database system MSDE is not supported by Windows Vista any more. The standalone database system "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2" must be used instead. It can be installed by starting SQLEXPR32.EXE in "setup/SQL Server 2005 Express Edition" folder. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Hints for non Western European operating systems ---------------------------------------------------------------- - These hints allow proper display of special characters both in the ADONIS®:Community Edition as well as HTML and WORD documentation for non Western European operating systems. Following character sets are supported: Central European and Cyrillic. - For MSDE database the appropriate collation must be set before installation of MSDE database. This can be done in the "setup.ini" file located in the setup\MSDE folder. The list of all available collations can be found in the "sql_collation.txt" file in the same folder. Please note that the collation should be case sensitive (CS) and accent sensitive (AS). For example, for proper Polish characters please set "SQL_Polish_Cp1250_CS_AS" - For MSSQL Server 2005 Express Edition database the collation can be selected during installation process. - In order to properly display special characters in the HTML/WORD documentation generated from ADONIS®:Community Edition, user must choose an appropriate character map table file corresponding to the operating system language. This setting can be done after installation of ADONIS®:Community Edition by selecting the appropriate value of the attribute "Character map file" documentation settings. Documentation settings are available under menu point "Options..." in the menu "Documentation" of "Import/Export" module. - Do not use special characters in the file name of HTML documentation.
